The Importance of Supplier Quality Management

As a business owner or manager, you may be well aware of how important it is to have quality products that are used in your end product. These supplies may include everything from raw materials, like lumber, to fasteners, such as screws, and much more.

Regularly ensuring that your facilities have the right quantities of supplies for assembly or manufacturing is not enough, you also need those supplies to be in good condition or better. Supplier quality management is focused on ensuring that the supplies your facilities use are superior in quality so that the end result is just as spectacular.

Supplier quality management seeks to identify problems in the supply area and to fix those problems. There are several approaches to take for this, however, each business is unique, and so there is no catch-all approach. Instead, the approach should be tailored specifically for the individual businesses, and in some cases, it should be tailored for the specific supplier as well.

The desired end result for all businesses is to ensure productivity and profitability. Productivity is impeded when there are issues with suppliers, including quantity and quality alike. Profitability may be impeded when supplier quality is not up to par or better. With this in mind, it is critical to stay on top of supplier quality management and to make improvements to suppliers when possible.
